Operations Manager

Reporting to: Company Directors

Salary: Between £50 – 55k

Direct Reports: Responsible for all staff

Key Responsibilities: 

Manage all aspects of the business operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner, ensuring compliance with all quality systems and standards.

Key Tasks & Duties: 

Human Resources:

  • People management including workforce planning, recruitment, selection, staff reviews and discipline
  • Develop staff, setting objectives and monitoring performance against these objectives & manage staff training and development
  • Management of Service Providers

Production:

  • Oversee the generation of production plans
  • Monitor actual performance against production plans and targets
  • Create an environment of continuous improvement and verify this through constant monitoring of actual results against KPI’s
  • Introduce OEE measures
  • Deliver high production efficiencies
  • Monitor staff rotas
  • Manage all stock levels from raw material, WIP and finished goods
  • Monitor maintenance of all plant & machinery, both planned and emergency

Quality:

  • Ensure ongoing achievement of BRC grade AA
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained at all times

Purchasing:

  • Negotiate with suppliers on all price movements and source new suppliers if advantageous
  • Develop good working relationship with key suppliers and monitor supplier performance
  • Monitor purchase invoices against actuals delivered

Financial:

  • Manage costs such as electricity, insurance, rates and service providers
  • Monitor operational overheads against targets
  • Ensure all plant, equipment and vehicles are adequately maintained and fit for purpose
  • Manage CAPEX projects from inception to completion

Sales & Marketing:

  • Develop good working relationship with key customer supply chains
  • Maintain excellent customer satisfaction levels
  • Manage all aspects of the company’s marketing requirements
  • Monitor and maintain an effective marketing presence through social media platforms

General:

  • Manage all health and safety requirements
  • Manage company logistics both inbound and outbound
  • Prepare regular operations report for the Directors
  • Hold daily/weekly/monthly meetings with the Directors and Senior Management Team and communicate minutes to the Directors
  • Any other duties as directed by the Directors
  • Deputise for the Directors
  • Responsibility for ensuring that the packaging we produce is safe and will be proactive in participating and improving the quality culture at Mc Shane Packaging

 

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Third level qualification in a business, food or technical area
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience gained at a production management level in a manufacturing environment
  • Live within close proximity to the factory to facilitate callouts.
  • A strong work ethic and trustworthy
  • Strong leadership and excellent people management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a tenacity to get to the root cause of operational issues
  • Working knowledge of BRC, HACCP, COSHH
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organisational, planning and time management skills
  • Strong numeracy, literacy and IT skills
  • Have a flexible and positive approach to the role

Desirable Criteria

  • Ideally experience gained within food packaging
